Four scholarship recipients from across Canada set to receive financial support and mentorship opportunities from leading animation studio; One recipient to receive $500 bursary

OTTAWA, ON – September 08, 2021 - Jam Filled Entertainment, a Boat Rocker company, announced the inaugural recipients of its scholarship program focused on attracting students from diverse backgrounds to the animation industry. The Jam Filled Diversity in Animation (JFDIA) scholarship program provides financial support and mentorship opportunities to promising second year animation program students.

The program, administered by Scholarship Partners Canada, a division of Universities Canada, on behalf of Jam Filled Entertainment, received dozens of applications. After careful review, four individual scholarships valued at $3,000 CAD per academic year, and renewable until the bachelor’s degree or diploma is obtained, have been awarded to:

  • Maïta Mutonji – Algonquin College
  • Joshua Sowa – Sheridan College
  • Christine Omere – Seneca College
  • Osazomwanogie Usuanlele – Seneca College

In addition, a $500 bursary was awarded to Marcos Silveira of Nova Scotia Community College.

“Thank you to every student who applied and congratulations to the recipients of the inaugural Jam Filled Diversity in Animation scholarship program,” said Kyle MacDougall, Phil Lafrance, and Jamie Leclaire, founders of Jam Filled Entertainment. “Diversity in animation is incredibly important to us and based on the quality of applications submitted for the program we believe the future of animation in Canada is bright.”

The Jam Filled Diversity in Animation scholarship program was launched earlier this year for students who identify as diverse and were entering the second year of an animation program at Algonquin College, Sheridan College, Seneca College, or Nova Scotia Community College.

“Congratulations to all the scholarship and bursary recipients,” said John Young, CEO, Boat Rocker Media. “Diversity and inclusivity are key pillars of Boat Rocker and we’re proud of the commitment Jam Filled has made to support students with diverse backgrounds through this important program.”
